GREEN=BOOM An experience prototype
Installed at Shopwork from 25th – 28th April 2011
DWFE is an experimental design syndicate producing projects that look at how artefacts, systems and material culture can offer some degree of relief from the emptiness of contemporary living. Their work is a search for meaning through the construction of the extra-ordinary; they design activities, actions and experiences that reconfigure people’s relationships to their habitual surroundings.

DWFE aim to create experiences that operate on an emotional level to stimulate and excite. They have been exploring the notion of ‘recreational bombs’, as a reaction against the over sanitisation of everyday life.

“GREEN=BOOM is an installation, where invited guests will disarm specially constructed devices. The experience also involves a briefing and debriefing, and participants will receive a photographic souvenir of their moment of truth.”

“Over recent decades, entertainment and play have become decoupled from risk. This experiment is an attempt to develop tension and anxiety: emotions that elevate our engagement within an entertainment topology. The GREEN=BOOM installation is also conceived as a boundary test in taste, and looks for the point at which the consumption of violence for entertainment stops being acceptable. Can we ‘act out’ extreme forms of jeopardy whilst still remaining detached from the possible consequences of our actions? At the heart of the project lies an ethical questioning of the contemporary consumption, glorification and fetishisation of warfare and weaponry.”
